Have We Met?

Moving to LA for the first time, I really thought things were going to be easy. I would be audition everyday, meeting thousands of celebrities, and booking acting and singing work left and right. Naturally I learned very quickly this is not how the world works.

My first audition was for American Idol, and boy did that suck. I was sitting in the sun for 8 hours, and then finally sang if front of three judges for 30 seconds. Yes! I’m not even kidding. Needless to say for whatever reason I was told no.

About 2 years later, again not kidding, I was finally given a huge opportunity. This was a private audition for the show the voice. This time I didn’t wait with millions of people; I was apart of the callback auditions. Usually the ones that go straight to this audition have mangers that got them a spot. I felt I was so ready, and then I go in there and forget the lyrics. So once again, I was told no. This one really hurt, because I felt it was my fault.

Today, I’m still standing, still playing, still singing, and still writing. I know I’m great, I just had a lot to learn. Now I’m building my empire. I have a notebook full of songs, I’m mastering the piano, my voice has grown, and soon I will be a college graduate. I will know everything there is to know about music, and the business. I don’t need anyone to say yes, because I am the CEO of CBarnesRecords. Looking to the future, I own this town.

  1. Hi Cody,

I too moved to LA thinking it would be easy but boy was I wrong. I figured I would give it another shot this time with some knowledge under my belt and a degree to back it up.

When you auditioned for American Idol was it a different experience than The Voice? If there was anything you felt you could have done better beforehand what would it be and did the judges offer you any feedback? I would like to know as I've been wanting to test those waters myself one day.

    All the best,
